Maths

When children are secure in the Prime areas we move on to the specific areas and feel that developing a basic understanding of Mathematics to be important before children start school.  We provide a range of activities including number recognition, matching number and quantity and comparing quantities.  We also introduce concepts such as time by looking at routines and time of day, we look at shapes including both 2d and 3d and begin to recognise and make simple repeated patterns.

We have found that the children benefit from our Number circle times based around the Numberblocks.  We watch an episode and then complete simple activities as a group to begin to embed the concepts learnt.  This includes number recognition, simple addition and subtraction and number block shapes.
