Each week we run Language groups, where we do fun activities to encourage children’s speech. these activities range from singing songs, making speech sounds and also listening to the sounds.
These groups have grown from the ECAT, Every Child a Talker scheme, which we have used in Pre-school for a number of years to encourage children’s communication skills.. We feel this scheme has been extremely beneficial to the setting and has allowed us to be more aware of children’s communication levels, how to support the children who are at risk of a delay and how problems with children’s language development can affect other aspects of their development such as behaviour and social skills. We have also looked at how our room layouts affect communication and have changed them accordingly.
