Easter Workshop and Sports Relief
On Friday 18th March 2016, we held our Easter Workshop for the children and their parents and carers to enjoy several enjoyable activities together that we had set up in the classrooms, such as decorating Easter biscuits, making Easter themed bracelets and Easter cards. We had 25 parents and carers attend the Workshop and also held an Easter Egg hunt in our outside area. As this day was also Sports Relief day the staff and children were invited to come to Pre-school dressed in sporty gear for a donation of £1.00. The Mobile Library bus visits the school grounds fortnightly and we always take a small group of children onto the library bus to choose some new books for us to read at story time and look at during the session. We have recently won a competition run by the library service and have won 2 book sets “Market Day” and “The Hungry Caterpillar Little Learning Library” and are looking forward to looking at these books...

The Pre-school staff have recently achieved the Smile Award accreditation which has been developed to improve health and reduce dental disease in very young children. To achieve this award, our staff completed a SMILE award training session, updated our Food and Drink Policy to reflect our commitment to healthy food choices and had a snack session and our hygiene practices observed by the course trainer from the local Oral Health Improvement Team. On Monday 14th March 2016, the children were able to meet the animals from Ark Farm again as Wood End First School had organised a visit from them. The school kindly invited Pre-school to take part in the visit and the children were taken to the allocated area on the school grounds for a half hour educational session with the farm. This session involved encouraging the children to look at the animals and to talk about what they can see, hear and feel when they are looking at animals usually found on a farm.
